Tips for Fresh Air Members

Hi friends,

Welcome to the COP-15! This email contains important information about the Fresh Air Center. Please read it all the way through, as we will not have capacity to field individual questions.

Note, many of you have been asking: our main downtown center will be open from Thursday, December 10th – Friday, December 18, 10am – midnight every day, at a building called the The Huset, located at Rådhusstræde 13.  Here is a map. To register, just show up on or after Thursday 10am with your photo ID.

I. FRESH AIR CENTER OFFERINGS OVERVIEW

The Fresh Air Center will offer a live-stream of press conferences and programming from inside the Bella Center, morning briefings orienting you to the day’s events and political context, afternoon NGO briefings, and evening programming with top-level figures.  Downtown, we will have super high-speed wireless internet, a fully equipped bar, snacks and nearby food options, and a community of global bloggers, media members, and online campaigners from NGOs around the world.  We will also coordinate an SMS broadcast blast promoting daily events, a data bank of Creative Commons photo and video captured, and an online aggregation platform with content feeds, a calendar, and live-stream embed.

Here is a break-down of these offerings:

Inside the Bella Center
  • Inside the Bella Center: modest open work space inside the Bella Center, opens on Tuesday December 8.
  • Morning briefing: 11am every day, starting on Thursday December 10. We’ll do a pre-briefing for bloggers on Wednesday.
  • Afternoon NGO briefings: from 2-4pm every day, starting on Thursday, December 10.
Downtown Fresh Air Center
  • Downtown center: space for 120 to work comfortably, 200 for happy hours and evening programming, high-speed wireless, live-stream briefings, press conferences and programming projected onto screens, and mainstream media coverage on TV
  • Evening programming: 6-8pm happy hour drink specials, 6pm simulcast of Fossil Fool of the Day awards, 7pm live “Real Talk” programming sponsored by UN Foundation
Virtual Fresh Air Center
  • SMS broadcast network: twice-daily text messages with info about events, briefings and evening programming
  • ClimateInsider listserv: news, strategy points, rapid response content, sample tweets, and logistic info for bloggers and online campaigners
  • http://live.tcktcktck.org: a comprehensive online platform with the following features:
  • Daybook / Calendar: online calendar of day’s events, with contact info where possible
  • Content Aggregation Feeds: of mainstream media, blogger, and NGO coverage of the COP-15
  • Live-stream embed: of OneWorld/OneClimate.net’s 24/7 programming
  • Shared multimedia data-bank: a Creative Commons licensed data bank for photos and videos where you can upload/download and tag high-res broadcast quality content, and use other people’s content as needed
  • Contact list: add your name, affiliation, and contact info to the Fresh Air Center participant wiki

II. INSIDE THE BELLA CENTER

We will have a very modest presence inside the Bella Center starting on Tuesday 8 December. This will consist of a series of tables in the NGO exhibition hall that will have power strips and internet hook-ups.

How to find us: when you first enter the Bella Center the exhibition hall is on the right. You are welcome to sit and work at our tables there.

Starting on Thursday, December 10, we will offer a series of stand-up briefings from that space which will also be live-streamed on http://live.tcktcktck.org and projected live onto screens in the downtown Fresh Air Center.  These briefings include:

III. FRESH AIR CENTER DOWNTOWN

The main Fresh Air Center space is in downtown Copenhagen, in
a building called the The Huset, located at Rådhusstræde 13.  Here is a map. It is a 5 minute walk to the Metro to Bella, Klimaforum, Vartov Center, City Hall, and the big inflatable globe.

The space will be open from Thursday, December 10 until Friday, December 18, from 10am – midnight every day. You will be able to register on or after Thursday. Just show up with your photo ID and we will give you an orientation packet.

The center can accommodate 120 people at work stations, and 200 people for “Real Talk”, a UN Foundation sponsored happy hour from 6-8pm with live programming.

Please note that space is available on a first-come, first-served basis each day. We cannot guarantee space or reserve seats.

It will be equipped with the following:

  • High-speed internet suitable for multiple users doing video upload and download,
  • Dozens of power strips,
  • Cable-enabled TV sets to view international mainstream media coverage
  • large screens for live-stream programming projections, including the OneWorld/OneClimate.net channel, Bella Center press conferences, Fresh Air Center morning and afternoon NGO briefings
  • Evening “Real Talk” happy hour from 6-8pm, sponsored by the UN Foundation. With drink specials, entertainment, guest speakers, and a daily news round-up by experts and organizers.
  • Computer stations for people without laptops.
  • Fully-equipped beverage bar with snacks, beer, wine, and cocktails.
  • Delivery and take-out for nearby food options.

Please note: there will be no printing facilities at the Fresh Air Center, however there is a print shop within a block of the space. You are responsible for your own printing costs.

More Info on the Evening Programming:
From 6-8pm we’ll host “Real Talk”, a happy hour sponsored by the UN Foundation, with drink specials, entertainment, guest speakers and a news round-up of the day’s events.

Every night at 6pm
we’ll begin with a live simulcast of the Fossil Fool of the Day awards ceremony, which takes place in the Climate Rescue Station and is hosted by the Climate Action Network and Avaaz.

On most nights from 7-8pm we’ll host live programming on the downtown Fresh Air Center stage, with entertainment, guest speakers, and a news round-up by experts and organizers.

We’ll announce the entertainment and speakers each day via the Fresh Air Center virtual hub offerings.

To further the Fresh Air Center’s role of facilitating rapid response coordination, communication and collaboration between global bloggers and online campaigners from NGOs, we are offering the following resources that can be accessed anywhere:

http://live.tcktcktck.org: this will be our virtual hub, where we’ll offer the following features:

  • daybook/calendar with information about press conferences, briefings, side vents, protests, creative demonstrations, and cultural events inside the Bella Center and throughout Copenhagen.
  • content feeds aggregating blogger and NGO coverage of the COP-15
  • live-stream video embed of our briefings and programming from inside the Bella Center, and of OneWorld/OneClimate.net’s channel
  • share multi-media data-bank called Citizen Global that enables Fresh Air Center participants to easily and quickly upload, tag, and edit video content in multiple formats, both web-quality and broadcast quality, and access all content added by other participants. You be able to quickly source photo and video content for your web posts, action alerts, etc.
  • participant contact list: add your name, affiliation, and contact info to the Fresh Air Center participant wiki

SMS broadcast network: when you first register at the Fresh Air Center downtown space we can sign you up for our SMS text messaging network. We will send twice-daily text messages with info about events, briefings and evening programming.

ClimateInsider listserv: this will be a primary channel for Fresh Air Center participants in Copenhagen, as well as bloggers and online campaigners in countries around the world, to share news, strategy points, rapid response content, sample tweets, and other useful content.  We will also use the list to highlight upcoming events and programming you may be interested in covering.
